Twitter’s Role In Search Engine Optimization

It is not widely known that the strikingly popular social networking site, Twitter, can play a vital role in search engine optimization (SEO). The truth is that Twitter can act as a great SEO tool when trying to promote one’s business.

To take advantage of Twitter’s SEO value, one should make sure that they’re using Twitter to its full potential. First, realize that the “Bio” section of your profile is going to be used by search engines as a meta description. If you want to look professional to searchers, place something professional in your “Bio” section. One should also be aware of how their Twitter handle and account name are being viewed by others. If you want to be taken seriously, make sure you convey that with your account name.

Be wary of your tweets. Tweets should aim to include keywords whenever applicable, but don’t go out of your way to litter every tweet with an abundance of keywords. It is also good to make sure that your tweets are re-tweetable, which means leaving a bit of space for other people to re-tweet it. The more people who share what you’ve written, the more your name will be spread.

Twitter cannot be used as an effective SEO tool unless you take advantage of its main aspect, followers and trends. Acquire followers, pay attention to trends, and get your name out there! The higher your followers’ PageRank, the more boost your own PageRank will receive. The more quickly your Twitter popularity grows, the more it will positively affect your SEO marketing strategy.

Getting the right people to follow you and in following others, it is crucial that they share similar interests with you.  For what good is a thousand followers when they are not interested in what your business has to offer them?  Also, Twitter is not just about spamming links. It is a two-way street.  Take the time to read what others have to say and make an effort to post relevant comments or re-tweet their posts if you like it.
