By now everyone should be familiar enough how Google changes its logo on their main search page if there is a special holiday or event. All of Google’s logo artwork, which they call the “doodle”, have all been very nicely designed so far. These doodles have a simple yet striking effect that captures the eyes. Plus it is always unique, I don’t recall seeing one being repeated over the years. And for this, a lot of people have gone to saving these doodles as a personal collection.
So what is it that Google has for its doodle lately?
Well, I was quite surprised when I went to Google.com today. I thought I typed the wrong URL. But after a few moments I realized that there was actually a playable Pac-man game sitting right on their website.
Yes, the web giant has featured an interactive doodle (a first of this kind for Google) of the popular arcade game, complete with sound effects and 255 levels including the 256th level kill screen. If Google humor included a coin slot somewhere in the page where you have to “drop” a coin to start the game, that would have made it very much like the original coin-operated machines.
All this in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Pac-man’s release in Japan. Enjoy the game before you go on googling for something. I know a lot of the generation today has only heard of the Pac-man game but have never really played it. Now is your chance. You can either use your mouse or the arrow keys of your keyboard to control Pac-man.
Now for this additional trivia. The interactive doodle isn’t made in Adobe Flash. Is Google trying to say something?
