Amazingly Simple Secrets for Making More Money Blogging in 2010

For anyone who attempted blogging in 2009 and did not produce the results they wanted then this article is for you, as I will reveal strategies learned in the last few months that have greatly improved my own online blogging success.

One of the most important things to do to make your blogging efforts more profitable is getting your site noticed and ranked higher.

In addition, to be more effective, develop a game plan for your blogging efforts. While most people write at their convenience, it is better if you have a schedule that gets you posting daily if possible or at least once a week.

The more posts made, the more pages and thus the more opportunities you give the search engines to find your blog. I also recommend, you use article marketing to get links to your site based on the subject you are covering. When you post article in directories you can get a link back to your blog. The more links the more opportunities for you to get traffic from visitors and the search engines.

To possibly avoid blogging failures that may have plagued so many unfocused bloggers in 2009, we will focus our efforts on the following tips and strategies for 2010:

- Google Adsense, Yahoo or any other contextual ad based system will let you profit from visitors who click on those ads. The best place you can add these ad codes would be in and around your blogs posts as people may find the urge to click on these advertisements after reading your post.

- You can also write reviews for other sites like pay per posts. Once your article writing gets your blog ranking you can see if you qualify for other blog ad networks and get paid for adding links or reviews for their clients.

- Add video to your blog, as video is here to stay and becoming more and more relevant, by adding engaging video content you increase your readership base.

- You can also provide other content that people who are not much into reading can participate in and consume like audio or webinars.

By taking time to develop and monetize your site, while also marketing it further you cover solid ground and will surely make more profits in 2010.

Why Nobody Cares About Your Blog

One of the problems that many people encounter with their blog is the lack of people reading it.  Many bloggers often complain how they spend countless hours writing their stories only to find out that no one is “listening” to what they say.  It is important to remember that it takes time to develop an interest to your readers.  You could be missing out on critical aspects of promotions which could help drive traffic to your blog.

Forum posting is one of the easiest ways to promote your blog.   The process is so easy.  You just choose any forum.  It doesn’t have to be in the same niche as yours, but that would help too.  High-traffic forums are definitely a good choice, but perhaps the most important thing to consider is if the forum allow signatures and if they support dofollow links.  Register an account, take time to create a very detailed and realistic profile so people will know that you are serious about joining the community.  Introduce yourself properly, then start making posts in the forum and don’t forget to always follow forum rules, then that’s about it.

The best thing about forum posting is the signature – your keywords or tags hyperlinked to your site – which is placed at the bottom of every post you make.  That’s already one backlink per post.  Also make the effort of giving sound advice, good comments and posting relevant posts to your particular niche in the forums.  This will show people that you are well-informed and knowledgeable in your niche.  If you do this, it will encourage people to visit your blog and you can slowly begin to build a loyal following of readers.

A second strategy that you can use to promote your blog is to leave comments on other people’s blogs.  This is commonly known as blog commenting.  What you do is to simply leave comments on other blogs.  Again, it doesn’t have to be the same niche as yours  just as long as your comment is related to the topic being discussed.  Usually when you leave a comment on a blog, you must fill out the form with your name and email with an optional website field where you can place the URL of a site.  Don’t forget to put the URL of the blog you’re promoting.  When commenting, make sure you make it smart and catchy so the blog author and other readers will notice your comment.

Once you have began driving traffic to your blog, it would be best to have a free opt-in list.  With this, you’ll know if people would like to become a member of your blog.  They can sign up for a free newsletter or subscribe to your feeds, helping you to build your own unique list of loyal readers.

Clearly blogging can be very challenging.  In most cases, the reason why so many blogs have a lack of response is because of the inability to effectively promote them.  To drive traffic to your blog and build a loyal following of readers requires that you use several strategies, 2 of the most common I’ve already discussed above.  This will help your blog to grow in the long run.

Finding Your Community Of Customers

When building a business on the Internet one of the hardest and most time consuming task is advertising.  Advertising on the Internet is a sensitive process.  One wrong move can get you black-listed from search engines and websites which is why knowing how to handle advertising beforehand is very important for success.

The first key to successfully advertising a website is to know how to create legitimate advertising techniques that will not be considered spam.  If you do not know what spam is, it is a word which is used to identify any form of advertising being put where it does not belong, or being placed into different websites with irrelevant focused content.   Spam is looked at so seriously due to the fact that if spam became too out of hand, the Internet would lose its appeal to users.

A few techniques for advertising and creating backlinks to your website consist of the following:

Forums – Forums are a good way of targeting a specific group of people.  There are forums on the Internet in just about every known category.  By joining forums and creating a forum signature which has a link to your website, or any website you are trying to promote, along with it a general description of your service, you are not only showing everyone who uses that forum your website, but also creating unique backlinks in every thread you post.  You are actually advertising your website by simply having a conversation or making comments.  Of course what you have to say counts.  Don’t be an idiot and don’t be ignorant.

Blogs – Blogging is one way of promoting your website, products and/or service by creating individual pages that will then be listed in the search engines.   A good way to advertise through blogging is to title your blog with a question which can be solved by your product or service.   Having to come up with an interesting title that captures the attention of readers is a good way to effectively advertise through blogs.  Create an educational blog which not only informs your readers, but entertains them as well.

Blog Commenting – This is a sure way of building backlinks to your site.  It’s gonna cost you a lot of your time, but it should be well worth it.  Make sure to post relevant comments and that it is related to the post.  Serious bloggers love “thank yous” and “excellent post” comments, but they’d rather you really add something interesting to the conversation.  Blog commenting is not a one-time deal too.  Take note of those blogs who have approved your comment, most especially, and drop a comment every now and then.  If your comment didn’t get approved, try again. It doesn’t hurt to try.

Social Networking Sites – This is something new and looks promising.  People have just recently been turning to these online social sites to advertise what they have to sell.  You just need to know how to do it.  The biggest challenge is how to get connected to people who are interested in your niche.  What good is it after all if you Tweet 50 times a day but nobody is reading?

Pay-Per-Click – Then there is also good old PPC that everyone is familiar with, I think.   There are plenty of options out there.  But Google Adwords.. .  Need I say more?

Internet Forum Etiquette – How To Keep From Getting Banned

When it comes to a business or personal venture, most people are aware that Internet marketing is a powerful tool. You’ll need to focus on things like SEO and building back links. An Internet forum post can be a powerful tool in accomplishing better rankings. Many people, however, may end up frustrated when their attempts at utilizing online forum posting result in being banned. Forums are a valuable part of many people’s marketing tool belt and you can learn how to make them work for you without risking getting banned. Here’s a few tips straight from a forum moderator.

Know the Demographic

Be mindful of what types of forums you are joining. Instead of just randomly signing up for every online forum posting service that you come across, take a bit of extra time and effort to examine the demographic that the forum posting serves. If you sell cell phones and parts, for example, you probably won’t fit in on a forum that caters to mothers who sew. However, a forum that has members who like the latest technology is a good fit for your marketing program.

Understand the Rules

Almost every Internet forum posting has rules and regulations that they put in place to make the visits of their members pleasant. After all, if they don’t like it, they won’t come back. When you join a new forum, read and understand those rules before adding a forum post! This is the most important tip in order to keep your forum accounts from being banned. Most forum postings allow a small link in the signature line, for example. That’s often enough to increase your rankings for SEO purposes. It also helps other members identify you with your particular business. If you don’t know the rules, you are going to be breaking them regularly with your marketing plan and will likely end up banned. Know the rules and use them to your advantage, even if you are using a forum posting service.

Join the Crowd

Besides understanding the rules, the most important part of working in an Internet based forum is to blend in. Don’t log on thinking that all you are there for is to hit and run with your advertising message. Instead, take the time to read other members’ posts and respond when it is appropriate. If there is a question that your product or service can take care of, and it is according to the established protocol, go ahead and offer what you have in a forum post. Otherwise, face time with the membership is often enough to get the word out and your signature link will start working with every post you make, even when they are completely unrelated. Also, once you have established yourself as a contributing member, both moderators and customers will be more open to more obvious types of advertising.

Sponsor a Prize

Many Internet forums regularly have contests and sweepstakes for their membership. Donating a prize will often get you some free advertising. It’s a win-win situation, for both you and the forum owners. Also, buy a banner advertisement. They are affordable and will help establish you as a contributing member of the forum posting community.

Make WordPress Comments DoFollow

In WordPress the links on any comment made on posts have the HTML attribute of NoFollow by default.  What this simply means is that it tells the search engines that a hyperlink will just ignore or not influence the target’s ranking in the search engine’s indexing.  If you are not familiar with it, the attribute should look like this within the tag if you look at the source:

<a href='http://link_of_site_here' rel='external nofollow' class='url'>

The highlighted part of the <a> tag is how WordPress writes the link.  If you want to change this to something else,  like the ever popular DoFollow attribute, there are 2 ways of achieving this.

1) Hacking Your Wordpress – The first method is to “hack” the source code of your WordPress blog.  It is very easy and doesn’t involve any programming know-how.  All you need to do is to find and edit the file named  comment-template.php.  This should be easily found under the wp-includes directory of your WordPress installation.

Once you’ve found this file, open it with your favorite editor then go to the function named get_comment_author_link() as seen below:

function get_comment_author_link() {
 $url    = get_comment_author_url();
 $author = get_comment_author();

 if ( empty( $url ) || 'http://' == $url )
 $return = $author;
 else
 $return = "<a href='$url' rel='external nofollow' class='url'>$author</a>";
 return apply_filters('get_comment_author_link', $return);
}

Again take note of the highlighted part on the code above.  That is the part that you should edit.  There is actually no DoFollow attribute.  Instead taking out the nofollow from the code is all you need to do.  After you’ve done the necessary changes, the result should look like this:

 $return = "<a href='$url' rel='external' class='url'>$author</a>";

Save the file, upload it to your host server and you’re good to go!  Do note that this will only take out the nofollow attribute on the “author link” part of the comment.  Links on the body of the comment will stay the same – NoFollow.  But that is good since we do hate links dropped on the comment body don’t we? It looks too spammy.  Most of the time this kind of comment goes directly to the spam bin.  If you want to make all links made on the comment DoFollow, you’ll have to do more hacking.  However, I don’t recommend this method of making comments on your blog DoFollow.  Directly altering WordPress code is something you should avoid doing since this breaks on version upgrades.

By the way, External, in case you were wondering is an attribute that tells your browser to open the link in another page or tab.  It is the valid XHTML strict equivalent to target=’_blank’, which is not supported.  This, however, needs javascript to function properly.

2) Plugins – The 2nd method, and what I recommend, is to install a WordPress plugin to take care of making links on comments DoFollow.  There are several plugins available at the WordPress plugins page.  Or you can search for it directly from the control panel.  Keyword for the search? Dofollow of course!  I will leave it up to you to decide which plugin best suits your taste

How does a DoFollow link benefit you?  Well for one you should be getting more comments from people who are trying to build backlinks to their site.  (More traffic perhaps?)  I see this as a 2-way benefit too.  You comment on my site, I follow.  I do the same on your site.  Well if you’re not a believer of DoFollow, at least approve our comment. LOL!

Anyway, DoFollow encourages commenting on your posts but be warned that spammers love DoFollow blogs a lot.  Once you have enabled this, expect to see more spam comments on your site.  Of course you wouldn’t be running a blog without some form of spam protection, would you?

350 Species Threatened by Global Warming

Write Effects is taking its stand against Global Warming.  It is not only the animals and plants that are directly threatened by greenhouse gas emissions.  Humans are at a greater risk too.  Please help spread the word.

Atmospheric carbon dioxide currently stands at about 387 parts per million. Scientists, including the head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Jim Hansen, formerly of NASA, have called on world leaders to reduce that level to 350 parts per million. Doing so will require the United States to cut its greenhouse gas emissions to 40 percent or more below 1990 levels by 2020.

Studies have concluded that 35 percent of species could be committed to extinction by 2050 if current emissions trajectories continue. But many of these extinctions can be prevented if greenhouse gas emissions are cut.

In celebration of the International Day of Climate Action on October 24, the Center for Biological Diversity needs you to help take action to save these species and the thousands of others at risk from runaway climate change. With President Barack Obama preparing for international climate negotiations in Copenhagen this December, the time to act is now.

Please sign the Center’s petition urging President Obama to follow the science and support a 350 ppm goal for any legislation or negotiated international agreement.

Visit the Center for Biological Diversity website to take action now.

Effective Link Building Via Blog Comments

Commenting on blogs is one of the better ways to build inbound links to your website.  Aside from incoming links, it also gives you other things such as brand presence or publicity, reputation and more visitors.  You don’t have to overdo it to be effective.  Leaving a comment on at least 2 or 3 different blogs a day can still be as effective if done diligently.  At a rate of 3 comments a day, you’ll have 20 or so made in a week.  That’s already 20 incoming links to your site!

What’s also important is that you don’t sound stupid or silly in your comment.  Always take the time to read the post you plan to comment on.  Don’t just dive in the water.  It’s even better if you read a few other posts made by the author of the blog.  It won’t take up too much of your time.  This way you can relate more to the points of view of the author when you make your comment.  As much as possible don’t just leave comments such as “Great post, I love it!” or “You write very well, keep it up.”  While these kinds of comments can be flattering to the blog author, it also has a higher chance for your comment to go hurtling down the spam bin.  Good quality comments is always your objective.

Avoid dropping links in the body of the comment unless you’re pretty sure that your comment won’t get deleted.  This can be considered as spam for many reasons.  Many blogs don’t like it when you are linking in the comment body.  For many bloggers, they have software to moderate this which may get your website, IP and email flagged for spam.  You definitely don’t want that to happen.  Just place the link to your site in the URL field.  That is more than enough.  Most blog comment forms have this along with fields for your email and name.

Another way to help your comment get approved is to not place spam-like text in the name field.  Spam-like text could be a name of a product or service, name of a website, keywords, etc.  Many commenters do this.  But to be on the safe side, because some blog moderators could be quite picky, just put in your name instead.  Any name of a person will do but I would suggest that you stick to one name.  This is part of building a reputation, a name for yourself.

Participating in blog comments – whether sharing your insights, offering tips and advice, or just agreeing with someone – while it is important that you comment on DoFollow blogs as much as possible, it is ok if a blog is associated to a “no follow” attribute.  Don’t hesitate to leave a comment just because of that one attribute.  Even if it is NoFollow, it can still turn out to more visitors for your website.  What is important is that your comment grabs the attention of the readers of the post and the author of the blog which can then lead to a more intelligent discussion and gets you (your site) noticed.  Follow up on your comment if you have to by all means.  Avoid confrontational situations that can put you in a bad light.

Finally take the time to read or study traffic analysis reports of your website.  Know those sites (blogs) that have given you the most traffic (visitors) and concentrate on them.  Drop a comment or two every now and then.  Also don’t be afraid to comment on newer blogs or those that you are not so familiar with.  Who knows, you might be among the first to stumble on upcoming blogs that will become very valuable later on.

The H1 Tag SEO Importance

There are 6 tags that define a heading in HTML.  These tags are designated from H1 to H6.  By default, the H1 tag is the largest or most important heading while the H6 is the least.  All of these tags are supported by all major browsers.

As with all search engine optimization efforts, no matter how small or seem insignificant, proper programming and page layout, aside from providing informative and effective content should always be practiced.  Headings are generally used to define the content of the page and for proper page layout.  Every written content or article should have proper headings.

The H1 tag can and is still widely used for effective SEO up to now.  Always consider the use of the H1 tag properly in your web page or blog post. It is used to describe a page so make sure you put the right text, or keywords, wrapped in your H1 tag that best describes what the page is all about.  Although humans might not put that much value to these headings, search engine robots do.  It is one of the things that helps assist a bot by telling it that the words within the tag is important to the whole content of the page.  As a rule, there should only be one H1 tag used throughout the entire page.  If you should need more headings within your written content, assign to it the other heading tags.  That is why there are 6 defined heading tags after all.

Of course text within the H1 tag doesn’t have to look that big and awkward as the default HTML implementation goes.  You can simply define it in your cascading style sheet (CSS) so that it will go smooth and natural to your page’s layout.

3 Easy Ways To Reach Your Readers

Developing a reputation as an expert in your field is a key part in reaching your audience.  However, you can’t just create this kind of reputation by spewing out your own views and beliefs.  Instead, you will have to look for every possible way to communicate and interact with your readers so that you can give them all the information they need to know.

Here are some of the simple ways to reach your readers.

Write challenging content. When you write, make sure to stir up some emotions and conflicting discussions. This will surely drive reader’s attention and you could possibly gain some insights on what and what not to write the next time.

Don’t disregard your comments. Every opinion counts, may it be in favor of you or is opposing you. It is always best to acknowledge their opinions for in such way you will know exactly what they want and if you have contributed something that is very valuable to them. Give your reply and gather the ideas you obviously got from them and create follow-up posts so your well will never run dry.

Feel free to ask. This will help you create new topics to discuss. The best way to do this is to send a survey to your list (if you have) or you could post a specific question and gather the answers you receive. Even a few responses can help you write quickly and effectively.

When you have this kind of information, the writing can just flow, you’ll apply an effective content writing and because of this, your customers will feel comfortable buying from you.

Creating Correct Anchor Texts

An Anchor Text, or link title, is the readable and clickable part of a hyperlink.  As links go, it usually leads to a page of a website.  And with anchor texts it should be something that readers find relevant or descriptive of the contents of the link’s landing page.

Aside from human readers, a good and descriptive anchor text will also tell search engine robots what the linked page is all about.  Although search engine algorithms are smarter now, if used carefully, this will still give a good push on your site’s ranking.

This is an example of an anchor text used in an appropriate way,

You should get quality and effective forum posting service from the right people.  Try us!

In this example, “forum posting service” is the anchor text.  And as you can see if you hover on the link above, it will lead you to the home page of this website where indeed forum posting is one of the services we provide.

Many mistakes are made in that instead of making the suitable words as an anchor text in an article, “click here” or “read this” is used.  This is very common and must be avoided.

If you want to create good anchor texts, try to put it in relevant words that will best describe the page where you eventually would want to lead your readers.
